We’ll just come right out and say it: Guitar Hero and Rock Band should watch their back, ’cause there’s a better-than-decent chance that Power Gig will be all the rage this holiday season. Seven45 Studios is a heretofore unheard of upstart with roots in First Act , and unlike the vast majority of game developers, these guys actually have a direct hand in the production of the software and hardware associated with this package. They’ll be designing the Power Gig video game series ( Rise of the SixString is only the first installment) as well as the guitars, drums and microphones in-house, and given the First Act roots, you know you’ll be getting instruments of higher quality than what’s on the market today.

Having filled our business laptop lust with a T410 undressing yesterday, today we’ve come across a comprehensive teardown of Alienware’s gamer-friendly M11x ultraportable. Touted as the world’s most powerful 11-inch notebook, this is certainly one of the most tightly packed, with the battery and CPU cooling solution taking up more than half of the real estate, while the hard drive, memory, and wireless modules leave just enough room for an asymmetric speaker arrangement.

While PlayStation still hasn’t confirmed whether its motion controller will be called the Arc , the rumor mill has gone one step further this week with a forum-poster claiming it’ll work alongside a Wii-like nunchuk. GDC is kicking off over in San Francisco this week, so if ever there was a venue to announce a new add-on—or even confirmation of the name—that would be it. The forum-poster at NeoGAF, by the name of Ichinisan, reckons the pictures he saw of the nunchuk included an analog stick, plus X and O buttons, along with L1 and L2 buttons under the D-Pad.

As Microsoft prepares to pull the plug on online gaming for the original Xbox, it’s decided to act benevolently toward the undoubtedly grief-stricken Halo 2 loyalists and has rewarded them all with some consolation prizes. A free three-month Xbox Live membership awaits, accompanied by 400 MS points and a place on the Halo: Reach beta, should you wish to accept it. For a console that’s nearly a decade old, it’s understandable that online gaming support would’ve had to end at some point, so you might as well just transfer all your energies into being a good guinea pig / tester for Microsoft’s latest cash cow

For whatever reason, Android’s high-performance Native Development Kit introduced back in the Cupcake days never got a ton of attention despite the subtle hints that it’d give devs the low-level access they needed to create killer, graphically rich, immersive environments ready to compete with pretty much any other gaming device you could shove in your pocket.

We’ve talked up Mad Catz’s Cyborg Rat before — and even given it the hands-on treatment — but even still, we thought it’d best to show you with the power of moving pictures all the crazy functions of this Franken-mouse (that’s pronounced “Fronk-in-mouse,” thank you very much).

Are you frustrated by game publishers releasing same-day DLC that screw used game purchasers over? How about making you pay for what should be essential, built-in parts of a game? Well, get ready for more of it, says Peter Moore .

If Sony hadn’t slapped a big logo on the side of this headset, I would’ve thought they had come from Bang & Olufsen instead.

No-One You Frag Ever Has To Know You’re Wearing Sony’s Stylish DR-350USB Gaming Headset [Headsets]
PC gaming headsets aren’t really something you think of when the word ’stylish’ comes up — in fact, you can usually file them somewhere after fanny packs and parachute pants for style points. Sony ’s aiming to change that a bit with a new series of ‘phones, and we have to say, they may have just pulled it off. The DR-350USB, DR-320DPV and DR-310DPV headsets feature updated stylings, but other than that, they’re pretty standard headsets, with features like volume controls and voice muting
